As 2024 draws to a close, we added up the numbers to bring you a round-up of National Technology News’ most popular stories of the year.
This year brought cyber security concerns into the spotlight. So, perhaps unsurprisingly, our top story was about a significant cyber security incident that took place in November. The operations of Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust were brought to a near halt last month after a security breach forced the cancellation of all outpatient appointments and severely disrupted hospital services at multiple sites.
Our second most-read article was a feature analysing the trends, risks and expectations in a changing financial services landscape, with industry leaders exploring how AI models are revolutionising the way the technology handles unstructured data. It also looked how genAI can aid in decision-making by extracting key information, identifying risks, and generally facilitating more informed decisions to prevent cybersecurity disruptions and increase operational efficiency.
In third place was an in-depth interview with Henk Van Hulle, chief executive of Open Banking Limited (OBL), on ; in the article, the chief executive explored the next key trends in Open Banking and the most creative ways it has been used by international players in 2024.
In 2024, AI has been increasingly used by UK retailers to boost operational growth and the customer service experience. And our fourth most-read article was an example of just that. The story covered the news that Tesco was using AI to power personalised customer challenges that can win them extra points for its Clubcard loyalty scheme.
